Michael Lobo, Ports Minister, Goa, has made it clear that nightlife in Goa will not resume until the COVID situation in the country is under control. The Minister stressed on the fact that it is important to save lives of people, and further mentioned that it will take at least a year for the economy to recover.
Goa is widely known for its nightlife and party culture, but ever since the pandemic the beaches here seem deserted. The state of Goa however saw a bit of tourism earlier this year, but it came under criticism when it was identified that tourists were flouting COVID protocols.
He also suggested that tourism should be opened in a phased manner, with top priorities given to those activities that are less likely to spread the virus. Hotel guests will be asked to show COVID-19 negative certificates in the future, and they should abide by all rules and regulations of the state.
Though the pandemic situation in Goa, much like other parts of the country is improving, the death rates are still ongoing since numerous patients continue to be on ventilators.
