Germany’s Nuremberg Christmas Market will not open this year-end due to the coronavirus, as COVID-19 seems to have gripped parts of Europe. Prime Minister Markus Söder, said that the situation is very, very serious and complicated. Nuremberg is in the Bavaria region of Germany.
Moreover, Bavaria has made a move to go on a de facto lockdown of its unvaccinated residents. It has been decided that all public places such as cinemas, and restaurants, will only be open for those who have taken the double vaccination. The Prime Minister has also said that unvaccinated folks are needed to limit their contacts to five people from two homes.
Christmas is certainly the most anticipated holiday in the European world, and Christmas markets attract numerous visitors and locals. A European Christmas is certainly a dream come true for most travel-enthusiasts. However, this time around, things can be a lot different if the upward trend continues.
Lothar Wieler, director of the Robert Koch Institute, Germany's disease control agency, said, "We are going to have a really terrible Christmas if we don't take countermeasures now."
