Even though it’s slightly out of the way (15 minutes by train to Downtown Geneva), a stay at Domaine de Châteauvieux will reveal a side to the city that few people get to see. Set against a stunning backdrop of rolling vineyards atop a hill in the Swiss countryside, the hotel is sprawled out across a group of farms belonging to the old Château de Peney (which was destroyed by the Genevans back in the 16th century) and the sturdy stone manor has been restored and renovated to its current splendour. Within, the décor is warm and relaxing, and the famous in-house restaurant—run by Switzerland’s most famous chefs, Philippe Chevrier—is one of the most romantic spots for a meal in the city (it stays closed on Sundays and Mondays, and you’ll definitely need to book a table in advance).
