This is the most significant and revered part in the temple complex. The Bodhi tree faces west and is directly behind the main shrine. It is here that Gautam Buddha attained enlightenment on a full moon night—the reason behind the Buddha Purnima festival. This peepal tree is huge and bordered by a square concrete wall. It is believed to be the fifth in its succession. The original Bodhi tree was destroyed by natural calamities.
