Firewalking is a tradition in Fiji, and actually based on a legend, which you can hear if you choose to attend a firewalking ceremony. So what exactly is a fire walking ceremony? Essentially men from the village walk across hot coals with their bare feet. A few things to note, this is a deep tradition that goes back hundreds of years and the men involved in the ceremony are under strict rules to avoid both coconuts and women prior to the fire walk. There is singing and chanting before the actual fire walk that the men take part in. The men walk over the pit of hot coals single file and when they reach the other side, their feet are not burnt! These ceremonies take place at many hotels throughout Fiji.
