It is Spring once again, which means that cherry blossoms are gracing our lives across the world. But of course now due to travel restrictions, not many of us can go out and see the beauty of cherry blossoms. Washington DC for example, is one of the prime destinations for cherry blossoms, but not many can physically go there. However, the National Cherry Blossom Festival is going to be held nevertheless, with some adjustments made to the celebrations.
At the festival, yet another draw for visitors every year is the special exhibitions, and performances, alongside cultural fairs, parades, and a lot more. You can expect the best time for viewing the cherry blossom to be between April 2 and 5 this year. But weather conditions must also be kept in mind. On the best of days, you can expect 70 percent of the Yoshino trees to be in full bloom all over the Tidal Basin. It is a sight to behold.
The celebrations go on from mid-March to mid-April each year, and it in fact commemorates the 3000cherry trees that Yukio Ozaki, the former Mayor of Tokyo, had gifted Washington in 1912. Later in 1965, First Lady “Lady Bird” Johnson accepted 3800 more trees, thus making it a paradise for the wonderful cherry blossoms to bloom.
