Navratri delight: Air India to serve special festive meals to its domestic passengers

As a festival special, Air India will serve special Navratri meals to its domestic passengers during the entire Navratri festival starting Sunday. According to the latest news reports, during the festival which starts September 29, Sunday, Air India will serve a festive menu over and above different types of meals being served presently to the air flyers. In other words, the new festive menu won’t replace the existing meal menu.
News has it that the festive meal will feature French fries, potato dishes, pakoras, plain yoghurt, tamarind chutney, dry fruit-based puddings etc. As disclosed, chefs will use rock salt to prepare the Navratri meals.


It is believed that Navratri (spring and autumn) also signals a change in weather, and thus the human body becomes more prone to diseases. Hence, the Navratri diet is based on Ayurvedic science. Millions of people across India fast during this festival. They refrain from not only meat and egg-based dishes, but also grains like wheat, maida, ragi, bajra and so on. Only traditional grains such as kuttu or buckwheat, amaranth, barnyard millet, sabudana and water chestnut are allowed for consumption during the fest.

As per Ayurveda, food items like garlic, onion, legumes, lentils, fenugreek, alcohol, meat, poultry, mustard (sarson), asafoetida (hing), radish and other natural produces are considered tamasic (sloth-inducing). Hence, they are best avoided.
