The cute niche featuring Salman Rushdie's Midnight's Children, Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code alongside Anton Chekov's Five Plays and the directly hooked online music add to the curiosity. At a glance, the menu is original, impressive and substantial. As we chat with the young Bengali owner, it falls into place. He has been cooking since six. I love this city. Honestly, it might not compare with Delhi and Mumbai, but leave aside the self-confessed gastrophones and you will discover, true Food-ism"!... If impressionism is for art and minimalism for luxury, then why not? The creative ferment in youngsters bringing together tastes, styles and quality is producing stunning results like this one. This can be the ultimate neighbourhood discovery of the year. Too casual for the serious food experience we are about to encounter. Charpoys at the entrance to welcome a smoking crowd, mix of lounging rattan chairs and tables of fours, good enough for soul-satisfying pig-outs.
The mini sliders with grilled fish and barbecue sauce is a sure shot winner, however the breaded shrimps with home marinade are bit overdone and the gooey chocolate omelette gives a mixed feeling. The diced sausages and leafy veggies Goan Chilli Dog is punchy, while the fresh pesto with pine nuts has a zing. The studs of the meal are the Entrees. There are many firsts! The quality cuts, the steak knifes without asking and that they use only grills, no ovens. These Ribs are the best cuts outside of a five star, grilled to a perfect medium-rare, smothered in sticky-great, sweet barbecue sauce. The Pork Chop, succulent and pink within. And the Lamb Steak, chunky and moist, as it should be, would have been better with a thinner sauce though. All meats came with wedges, mash or vegetables on the side, just as it should. After this meal, we can easily give the desserts a skip."
