Corporate executives have given Mainland China their stamp of approval (you'll see quite a few of them mixing business with pleasure here); ditto for the cosmopolitan set. Mainland China is located in a retail complex but with Chinese warrior images and a rather Oriental door, it leaves no doubt about its speciality. This national Chinese food chain scores extremely high for consistency. What they serve in Ahmedabad is what can be had at their other restaurants in the country, be it in Kolkata, Mumbai or Bangalore, though they seem to have favoured Ahmedabad with more hot and spicy dishes! Mainland China may not be the 'connoisseur's Chinese' but it does offer much better Chinese fare than what you get in most places in this city. You could start your meal with veg or non-veg dim sums, clear soups (which are excellent), Crackling Spinach, Steamed Prawns with Garlic, lobster in any of the sauces they offer (but you need not stick to those mentioned only in the menu), Crabmeat in Pepper Garlic Sauce, Pot Roasted Lamb with Schezwan Vegetables and Bamboo Shoot, Vegetables in a spicy Hunan Sauce, Claypot Rice with veggies or chicken and various mushroom dishes. Their desserts are also very good. Vegetarians and Jains too are well looked after. The service staff is well-informed and helpful.
