Sepia has long been a classic restaurant for those dining in the windy city. Housed in a restored print shop from the 1890s, the restaurant is a modern take on a more classic American era. The menu is an array of carefully crafted dishes utilising the produce from artisan farmers and craftsmen in the area. Starters include country classics like house-made cured meats ($17), greens with elderflower ($12) or a selection of local cheeses with seasonal spreads and candied nuts ($15). Main dishes include unique combinations served in a fine dining setting. We recommend the pork ($34.00) which is a Berkshire pork collar with baby carrots, coffee, cabbage, and smoked vanilla – definitely something you don’t get every day! Fitting with modern yet traditional vibe of the restaurant, is the extensive cocktail list. Although they can of course make any requested classics, Sepia bar enjoys pushing the boundaries and producing unique taste sensations. A few recommended cocktails are the Trade Secret ($13) with gin, celery, lime, escorial rinse and egg white, and the Slow-Poke Rodriguez with roasted pork fat -washed mezcal, pineapple, and cilantro.
