Kronenhalle is old and exceptionally so and has had a glittering guest list that includes names like James Joyce, Coco Chanel, Pablo Picasso and Yves Saint Laurent among other celebrities. Its facade, by contrast, is an art gallery in itself with frescoes by the likes of Matisse, Chagall and Miro. Kronenhalle’s chateaubriand steaks are nonpareil, their rosti is stuff made out of dreams, the zürcher geschnetzeltes are creamy, the schnitzels are perfectly seasoned and the chocolate mousse is out of this world. The presentation is neat and the portions are wholesome and it is evident that the chefs care about paying attention to the minutest of details.
