Klasterni Pivovar

The monks of Strahov Monastery were not only extremely learned men, they even possessed the talent of brewing their own beer. Considering how exquisite the lager served at Klasterni Pivovar tastes, the divine connection is very much evident. Adjacent to Prague Castle, Strahov’s very own beer hall is as old as the 13th century. Two massive copper brewing kettles dominate most of the interiors of this otherwise humble pub and the overwhelming crowds are proof of how excellent their fare is.

Tmavy (dark) and polotmavy (amber) are the two major varieties of beer produced at Klasterni and both taste equally good. They are served in tall and thick mugs and it takes a decent amount of courage to chug the entire liquid down. The brews are luscious, creamy, full-bodied and exceptionally strong, so do not feel guilty while ordering a second round. A plethora of salads, meat dishes and desserts are available if you’re hungry. The beer ice-cream and honey crepes served here deserve a special mention. While the indoor seating area of this quintessential beer hall is full of character, the outdoors are tranquil and flawlessly pretty considering the dewy grass and fallen maple leaves. Every hour spent here is a happy hour!
