I am born and brought up in Varanasi. I have lived my childhood, adolescence and early twenties in the interiors of the city. I passed through Kachori Gali very often not only to avoid the crowded traffic on the road but also to avoid eating at home. The smell of hot paratha, poori and kachori prepared in desi ghee was so irresistible. I don't know how it tastes these days, following the police control of movement in and around Vishwanath Temple, which I stopped visiting after the Babri Moque incident. Varanasi is no longer what it used to be, a poor man's city, with signs of simple life and genuine habits. I can't imagine the price of two kachoris for two hundred rupees in Kachori Gali, whatever the cost of living and price rise today!--Ram Krishna SinghRead More
