Located in Testaccio, one of the trendiest neighbourhoods in the city that has managed to keep its local and authentic character, Flavio al Velavevodetto is one of the best places to eat in Rome. Do not confuse it with the other one, which is known by the name of Velavevodetto in Piazza dei Quiriti, in the heart of Prati. All dishes are those of the Roman tradition and prepared using strictly local ingredients. Pasta is made fresh every day, as well as the house specialty, the tiramisu. Staples of Flavio al Valavevodetto include the tonnarelli cacio e pepe (pasta with cheese and pepper), rigatoni pasta alla gricia and all’amatriciana, linguine pasta alla pescatora (with a seafood sauce), abbacchio brodettato (lamb with a sauce made with eggs, lemon and parsley), breaded and fried lamb ribs, trippa alla romana (tripe), cicoria (chicory) sautéd with garlic and chillies, puntarelle (a region-exclusive vegetable, served in a salad style with a dressing made of oil and anchovies). Prices might just pinch you a bit.
