The legendary Cafe Niloufer is a great place to experience the quintessential taste and old-world charm of Hyderabad’s Irani cafes. Loyalists come to the café in the morning for the malai bun and other breads, and in the evenings for the strong Irani chai, as well as the sweet, melt-in-your-mouth Osmania biscuits and salty khari biscuits. The other baked specialities include nan khatai, plum cake, dilkush and a range of other biscuits. Since the café has just four tables, it is perpetually crowded with regulars. Yet the service is fast and efficient, and it’s common to find most customers standing outside on the road to savour their tea and biscuits.
