One of the many in the long line of distinguished people to come out of Trinity College, poet, playwright and novelist Oliver Goldsmith, whose works include The Vicar of Wakefield and The Deserted Village, is immortalised in the Front Arch of the college grounds. The statue depicts Goldsmith striking a rather haughty pose but head bent towards an open book in his left hand.
