Diamond Harbour

Another major holiday destination near Kolkata, Diamond Harbour attracts a lot of tourists round the year. Diamond Harbour used to be a stronghold of Portuguese pirates in earlier days. The ruins of the Fort Chingrikhali (locally known as Purano Kella) can still be seen. There is some dispute regarding its origins; some say that the Portuguese built it, others opine that the English built the fort.
