Kerala: Kadamakkudy’s 14 islands likely to be turned into tourist hotspots

If things go as per planning, 14 islands in Kadamakkudy, located an hour away from Kochi, will likely be turned into tourism spots very soon. The concerned departments are mapping a so-called plan to float a Cial-model special-purpose vehicle (SPV) to transform 14 islands in Kadamakkudy panchayat into a village tourism hub.
As per the latest news reports, all the 14 islands will be interconnected via ferries, and there will be walkways too connecting these islands. S Vijayakumar, Secretary District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), referring to this development said that once a visitor reaches Kadamakkudy, he will be welcomed by a variety of avenues or activities. The visitors will be offered an opportunity to enjoy a village walk, and experience rural life by taking part in farming and fishing. The official further stated that there will be hop-on and hop-off ferries to allow tourists to visit all those connecting islands.
For those willing to spend around two to three days in Kadamakkudy, they will be given an opportunity to try their hands in water sports, wander around the mangrove park, and check out the floating restaurants, floating handicraft market, pokkali farms, coir museums and aquafarms. There will also be jogging tracks, a children’s park and gymnasiums attached to the islands. One of the islands will have an amphitheatre, where visitors can watch martial arts and other art forms performed.

Further, there will be row and pedal boats for those interested in cruising through the farms in Kadamakkudy.
