Pollachi is home to several waterfalls as well. One of the more easily accessible ones is the Monkey Falls that lies on the foothill of Valparai. Interestingly, it gets its name from the numerous monkeys that inhabit this place! In fact there is a trek route at the Monkey Falls through the evergreen forests and rocky cliffs that you can do with prior permission of the Tamil Nadu Forest Department headquarters at Pollachi. However, this needs to be done only with an approved guide and is done when the weather is right (treks are cancelled in the monsoons). Likewise, the Athirapally Falls, a favourite with filmmakers is about 35 km from Sholaiyar. The Chinnakallar Falls is about 26 km east of Valparai and received heavy rainfull only next to Cherrapunji. The Rhythm Falls is 5 km ahead of Athirapally Falls and the droplets of water that fall on the road make for an interesting sight. Sholayar Dam, located about 30 km from Valparai, is said to be amongst the longest dams in Asia and its length measures about 6-7 km. Constructed in the Chalakudy River, the dam is on the border of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The Kadamparai Dam is a hydroelectric plant at Kadamparai between Pollachi and Valparai and can be visited only with prior special permission. The Nirayar Dam located in eastern side of Valparai hills has two dams, upper Nerar and lower Nerar which are located about 5 km apart and water from Chinnakallar falls gets collected here.
