Currently, Sindhudurg boasts having the Indian Institute of Scuba Diving and Aquatic sports (IISDA), which the MTDC states is one of the largest schools for scuba diving in the Asia Pacific region.
A senior official from the MTDC in the know-how stated that they are trying to spot places that have the potential to be developed into scuba diving spots, and for this, divers have been sent underwater to test if those sites bred fish, have undersea coral, and if these sites are even feasible for such an activity. Sites that can host adventure activities will also be identified and developed. The official also stated that the water quality has also been tested at these sites.
The MTDC official also informed that private parties will be given the opportunity to develop such scuba diving facilities, who can further establish their own establishments. The private parties can also opt to run those facilities simply as scuba diving sites. The official further mentioned that private landowners had also expressed a keen interest in this initiative, and that they are eager to develop and set up facilities at Guhagar.
This is in fact a very good initiative taken by the MTDC, and it is expected that such an initiative will help promote tourism in this region.
