A city of architectural gems just 30 km from KL
Putrajaya has certainly come up in the world. Once a scrappy jungle settlement, it is now the federal administrative centre of Malaysia. That job used to belong to Kuala Lumpur, but the country's civic administration was moved to Putrajaya in 1999 to ease overcrowding and congestion in the capital city. Just 30 km south of KL, Putrajaya is well worth a trip for its traditional and contemporary architectural gems, ranging from traditional structures to gleaming and glistening government buildings.
Keep your camera handy to snap the onion-shaped mosaic dome of the Prime Minister's complex, Perdana Putra; the Putra Mosque; and the seven bridges that span the city's artificial lake. For nature lovers, the lakes and wetlands that surround Putrajaya are home to numerous wildlife sanctuaries and are a birdwatcher’s paradise.
