Varkala Cliff: Kerala's majestic seaside wonder and a geo-heritage site

Perched on the southwestern coast of India, Varkala is a picturesque town in the state of Kerala renowned for its stunning cliffs, pristine beaches, and rich cultural heritage. Geologists recognise them as a unique Cenozoic sedimentary formation and have designated them a national geological monument by the Geological Survey of India to ensure their protection, preservation, and promotion for geotourism. In 2015, the Ministry of Mines and the Geological Survey of India declared the Varkala Cliffs a geo-heritage site, highlighting their geological significance.

One of the main attractions of Varkala Cliff is its breathtaking vistas. From atop the cliff, visitors can gaze out at the endless expanse of the Arabian Sea, dotted with fishing boats and surfers riding the waves. The cliff also offers mesmerising views of the surrounding coastline, with its pristine beaches and lush palm groves.

As the sun dips below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the sea, visitors gather along the cliff's edge to witness nature's spectacular show.
