One of those temples in Kanchipuram that can attract both travellers and pilgrims, the Vaikunda Perumal Temple was built by the Pallava king Nandivarman II during the seventh century. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, whose image can be seen across many place within the temple in standing, sitting and reclining forms on towering vimanas. Among the architectural brilliances that attract travellers from all parts of the country and the world to this temple are the many beautiful lion pillared cloisters as well as the several beautiful reliefs within the shrine of the temple. There are inscriptions on the walls of this temple that tell the story of both the temple and the city. The Vaikunda Perumal Temple is now taken care of by the Archaeological Survey of India.
