USA gets another new national park in West Virginia

Another addition to the leagues of national parks in the USA is the New River Gorge in West Virginia. A national river formerly, the park has now been promoted to a national park and preserved due to the COVID stimulus package released in December 2020. The New River Gorge will be the 63rd national park in the USA, and the 20th preserve.
According to the latest reports, the national park has impressive dimensions–it covers an area of 70000 acres, along 53 miles of river cutting through sandstone cliffs.
The New River Gorge National Park is situated about 60 minutes from Charleston, WV. Reportedly, the park and preserve will feature three locations already under charge of the National Park Service which also includes the New River Gorge itself, the Bluestone National Scenic River and the Gauley National Recreation Area.
For rock climbing, hiking and whitewater rafting, the Appalachian canyon is one of the most favoured destinations. There are above 1500 rock climbing routes in the park, mountain biking trails as well as Class IV and V whitewater rapids for the hardcore adventure seekers. The presence of wildlife such as the white-tailed deer, bald eagles, river otters, and plants like West Virginia’s white and pink state flower as well as the great rhododendron add more value to the New River Gorge National Park.
