Going by the recently alert sounded by the IMD, the onslaught of monsoon and heavy rain is not over yet. According to the news reports, a low-pressure area may soon build over Odisha and its neighbouring areas owing to a cyclone present off the Odisha-Bengal coast.
Taking action on the weather forecast, Odisha’s revenue and disaster management department has issued directives to the District Collectors to be prepared with the administrative machinery for dealing with any possible problem. As a safety precaution, the fishing community has been told to refrain from going into the sea on Saturday and Sunday.
For now, moderate to heavy rainfall with isolated heavy falls has been predicted over Odisha, Vidarbha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh in the next 24 hours, as well as over Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat in the next 48 hours. Furthermore, the convergence of lower-level westerlies is expected to cause heavy rainfall in the next three days across Kerala and coastal Karnataka.
