Traffic jam on Everest! 5 pristine places in India that are witnessing unusual crowd this summer
The problem of overcrowding on Everest is not new but the unusual visuals and videos of traffic jams on the world's highest peak this season have taken the internet by storm. It’s true that every year, over a hundred mountaineers scale Mt Everest. But this year, climbers got stuck in long queues, apparently causing a traffic jam on the world’s tallest mountain in the world.
The video going viral of climbers waiting in long queues is from 20th May. In the video, we can see mountaineers waiting in a single lane trying to ascend the summit. Meanwhile, it was also reported that two climbers have gone missing. Daniel Paul Paterson (40) along with his sherpa Pas Tenji (23) were reported missing on Tuesday while attempting to summit the world's highest peak, situated on the border between China and Nepal.
On this note, let’s have a look at 5 places in India that are witnessing unusual crowds this summer.
Ooty, Tamil Nadu
Ooty's pleasant climate attracts travellers from North India in large numbers. But given the hill station's limited infrastructure, it struggles to meet the influx of tourists, resulting in overcrowded streets, pollution, and congestion.
Manali, Himachal Pradesh
Manali is a beautiful hill station in Himachal Pradesh noted for its adventure sports, natural beauty, ancient temples and colourful cafes. However, the town's popularity has led to traffic congestion. Those planning a trip to Manali this summer, must be prepared for hours of jam and crowded tourist attractions.
Nainital, Uttarakhand
Another hill station that becomes the victim of overtourism during summers is Nainital in Uttarakhand. The picturesque lake and surrounding hills make it a sought-after destination for tourists seeking respite from the heat. However, the town's popularity results in overcrowded streets and long vehicle queques.
Mussoorie, Uttarakhand
It’s suggested to avoid planning a trip to Mussoorie in Uttarakhand during weekends, public holidays and peak summer months. The hill station, which is known for its natural beauty and colonial charm, attracts a large number of tourists. The main attractions, such as Mall Road and Kempty Falls, become overcrowded, adding to the discomfort of visitors.
Char Dhams in Uttarakhand
The Chardham Yatra (Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath) in Uttarakhand has begun, with over 26 lakh pilgrims joining the pilgrimage. Reports of severe traffic congestion along the Gangotri-Yamunotri Highway have surfaced, causing significant delays and sparking protests among frustrated pilgrims. The congestion problem has become a major source of discontent, with pilgrims calling on authorities to address the insufficient traffic management.
Shimla, Himachal Pradesh
Being one of the best summer escapes, Shimla in Himachal Pradesh often experiences heavy crowds and hours of traffic jams during the peak summer months. The hill station’s narrow streets and limited infrastructure become overwhelmed, leading to never-ending traffic congestion.
