Tourism in China, Japan and Thailand lose billions in the wake of Coronavirus

The Coronavirus flu seems to be spreading fast with every passing day, expanding from one destination to another. The ongoing virus outbreak has hugely hit the tourism industry in China, Japan and Thailand in billions! As per the reports, more than 20000 tourists had to cancel their trips with a Tokyo-based travel company.

A travel expert mentioned that they had been constantly getting cancellation requests from travellers, and the situation has hit them really hard. He further said that the staff are coming to the office every day and dealing with the grave situation. They are constantly on phone calls, calling restaurants and shops to cancel the visits that were included on the travel itinerary.
Not only tour operators but hotels, airlines, casinos and cruise operators are also suffering massively and this is the most immediate repercussions of the virus. The biggest trouble that everyone is dreading is that the current Coronavirus outbreak might also hit the tourism industry ahead of the 2020 Olympics to be held in Tokyo.

According to a senior economist, the hotel and transportation industries, which have been preparing for the huge influx of visitors for the upcoming Olympics and Paralympics will have to suffer immensely when it comes to investments.
Recently, the celebrations of Chinese Lunar New Year, which is considered the busiest travel season of the country, were also cancelled to block the spread of the epidemic and reduce mass gatherings.

Coming to Thailand, which is a prominent Asian travel destination, the revenue loss stands at $1.6 billion around Lunar New Year. On the other hand, a number of drugstores ran out of surgical masks in Bangkok and only a handful of Chinese tourists were noticed for the holiday, as per reports.
As of now, anti-disease efforts are made everywhere as the virus has already claimed more than a hundred lives and infected at least 2700.
