Burano

Primarily renowned for lace production, Burano Island’s settlement is home to the most colourful streets around Venice and is a photographer’s paradise. While taking a walk on the streets of Burano, you will come across the vibrantly coloured houses that are a treat for the eyes. A late afternoon walk can help you notice that the colours of these houses start to change as twilight approaches. The “blue hour” has the hues of the structures muted, so it’s good to keep your camera ready.

Apart from the colourful street scenes, the main attraction of Burano is the lace. You can pay a visit to the Lace Museum and get familiarised with the features of the real Burano lace before you stop by the lace shops. Beware of the touristy shops that tend to be sell low quality lace. Genuine Burano lace is expensive because the weaving is so intricate that even a small piece of lace takes months to complete. You can shop for different kinds of souvenirs like popular Venetian masks, garments and jewellery that are more reasonably priced on Burano than in the main island of Venice.
