Some architecture is so synonymous with a place that it looms large over it in the mind’s eye—crowding the skyline waiting for you to photograph it. Paris sans Eiffel, Sydney without the Opera House or Pisa with a straightened tower would leave photographers wandering around, wondering where to aim their glass eyes. Seeing these behemoths of architectural design and construction can give you the feeling of really being somewhere—it’s the difference between seeing a photo of something and seeing it in person—these giants are never quite as you expect them to be.
