Hachiko is the most famous dog in Japan and one of the most famous in the world, up there with Lassi and Rin Tin Tin. Back in the 1920s, Hachiko would follow his owner to Shibuya Station when he went to work in the morning and then return in the afternoon to join him for the walk home.In 1925, Hachiko’s owner suffered a cerebral hemorrhage at work and died. When he never returned for the walk home that evening, Hachiko returned to Shibuya Station the following day. And the next. And the next. Hachiko returned to Shibuya Station every day for the next decade until his death. His never-ending loyalty was noticed before Hachiko passed. The dog was even present at the unveiling.
