Tkalciceva Street

Located close to Ban Jelačić Square, the Tkalciceva Street is central to Zagreb’s social life. The street is lined with shops, boutiques, restaurants, pizzeria, kebab corners, bars, art galleries and night clubs. The street divides the district into two with Gornji Grad in the west and Nova Ves in the east. In earlier centuries, Medveščak creek existed in the same place as the Tkalciceva Street. Twin cities of Kaptol and Gradec thrived around the creek. The industrial pollution forced the closure of the creek in 1898, resulting in restructuring of a street for pedestrian use in its place. The famous architect Milan Lenuci, who also designed the layout of Zagreb, was instrumental in recreating a modern area around the street. Book a table at Agava, a very popular restaurant overlooking the street. The restaurant is famous for traditional Croatian dish of Pasticada. If you are up for some shopping then head to Kaptol Center, which boasts of well-known international famous brands. Do not miss tasting the Croatian Schnapp Rakija at Rakijarnica Cica. The bizarrely decorated place draws the wise and weirdos alike.
