These Indian CITIES likely to go underwater by century-end
If reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), or NASA are taken into account, they have been highlighting the current world's alarming exposure to the adverse effects of climate change. Similarly, there are many Indian cities that are at risk to face submersion by 2100. NASA earlier reported that major Indian cities, including Mumbai, could likely be submerged by the end of the century, prompting concerns about averting this impending disaster. Taking into account these reports, here we take a look at some of the Indian cities that are facing the risk of going underwater by the end of the century-end.
Chennai
It’s a major city in Tamil Nadu that is also under the looming threat of submersion. As per NASA's predictions, Chennai may find itself submerged under 1.87 ft of water by 2100. As a hub of art and culture, the city's landscape might undergo significant transformations.
Mumbai
This one is totally unbelievable. Known for its glamour and glitz, this place is also facing a concerning future, with more than half of the city projected to be underwater by 2100. Situated along the Arabian Sea, the city's attractiveness as a travel destination could be compromised unless substantial changes occur in the near future.
Visakhapatnam
A beautiful coastal city in Andhra Pradesh, and is commonly referred to as Vizag. It is anticipated that Vizag will also be 1.77 ft underwater by 2100. It’s definitely a beautiful port destination, but its current charm may be at risk of disappearing unless proactive measures are taken.
Bhavnagar
The city located in Gujarat is under a significant threat, and it’s anticipated that it will experience a substantial submersion of 2.70 ft. Founded in 1724, Bhavnagar offers a glimpse into a historical era as the former capital of the Bhavnagar State, making its potential loss a matter of great concern.
Cochin
This beautiful city in Kerala, may likely experience 2.32 ft of submersion by 2100. Despite being a vibrant and significant city for the state, rising sea levels and the melting of Himalayan glaciers contribute to the perilous situation.
Mangaluru
This picturesque coastal town in Karnataka, known for its slow-paced charm, is also on the list of endangered cities. Predicted to be submerged under 1.87 ft of water, the city's unique appeal may be at risk in the face of these potential dangers.
Tuticorin
This is another coastal city in southern India that is facing a concerning future with a potential submersion of 1.9 ft by the end of the century. The rising sea levels pose a significant threat to this vibrant port town, thereby calling for the urgent need for sustainable solutions to mitigate the impact of climate change.
