Air travellers in the National Capital Region (NCR) can look forward to happy tidings starting April 2019. After being in the news since 2017, the civil terminal at Hindon Airbase in Ghaziabad is set to begin operations in April. A few days back, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated a building at Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Hindon airbase, which will be used for civilian flights under the UDAN scheme.
The new civil enclave at Hindon Airport is expected to take a huge weight off from the IGI Airport in Delhi. It will also prove to be a convenient departure and landing base for passengers living in Ghaziabad, Noida and other nearby areas.
The Hindon airport has eight check-in counters, four frisking booths, two arrival carousels and a car parking lot with the capacity to accommodate as many as 90 cars!
The UDAN scheme introduced by the current government provides air travel subsidies with the aim of "letting the common citizen of India fly".
