They were once called the Kings Gardens or the Royal Gardens and they might just be Athens best kept secret. A respite from the busy Athenian streets and the hot sun, these gardens are an oasis for the travelers. This tropical paradise is located right in the heart of Athens, behind the parliament and measures a whopping 15.5 hectares. Open daily for the whole day visitors can take pleasure in the ancient ruins, duck ponds and a plethora of flowers and trees. This is a great place to visit for children for its childrens’ library and a playground. Kids also love to feed the ducks. There is small zoo located inside the gardens as well as a botanical museum which are yours to explore. To bask in the plenty of shade here we suggest you tag along a picnic basket and spend an afternoon here.
