One of the fastest growing cities in the state of Karnataka, Hubli or Hubballi, as it is officially known, is the second largest city in the state after the capital city Bengaluru. This vibrant city, located a little over 400 km from Bengaluru, is a bustling commercial centre attracting tourists from far and near. Apart from being home to almost one lakh small and medium scale industries, the city is a major centre for commodity trade, which includes crops like peanut, chilli and cotton (these are grown in abundance in the area). Lying on the ‘Golden Quadrilateral’ this multi-faceted city is also known as the cultural, educational and music capital of the state. Besides Sufi Darghas, it is known for Hindustani music exponents like Bhimsen Joshi, Gangubai Hangal, and illustrious poets like D. R. Bendre and V. K. Gokak. Hubli is well connected by air, rail and road. Hubli airport has flights to cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Jabalpur. Being the headquarters of the South Western Railway zone, there are daily trains to major towns of the country. The connectivity is equally good by road to a number of major cities. The best time to visit Hubli is in between October and February.
