The Sydney fireworks during New Year is so popular that it is enjoyed live by as many as 1.5 million people who come from different parts of the world. This year the celebration will be even more special, not only because of the marriage equality vote in Australia but also the celebration of the 40th anniversary of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, which is held in February/March, since 1978.
The special fireworks at the Harbour Bridge will see a riot of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple/violet coloured fireworks above the water. With two firework sessions scheduled to take place this year, one at 9 pm and the other at midnight, the special show is all set to involve the use of 100,000 individual pyrotechnic effects, aerial pyrograms, 30,000 shooting comets, 13,000 shells, and eight tonnes of fireworks.
Since this year’s New Year celebrations in Sydney are dedicated towards the legalisation of same-sex marriage, which won with 61 percent votes by Australians, the city’s Lord Mayor Clover Moore expressed his thoughts by saying, “This is a fabulous way to see out 2017 – the year that four out of five Sydneysiders said a resounding ‘Yes’ to marriage equality.”
