The plan to connect Bengaluru to its Kempegowda International Airport with metro rail has been finally approved by the state cabinet. The 29.62 km metro line will be connecting Nagawara to Bangalore’s airport via other metro stations spread across different parts of the city.
With an estimated 1.25 lakh passengers expected to travel on this Bengaluru metro line, the route will connect the city’s international airport to major parts of the city including Jakkur, RK Hegde Nagar, Yelahanka, and also upcoming industrial areas near Chikkajala.

This upcoming metro line will not only benefit the local commuters, who can avoid the city’s infamous traffic, but also travellers who visit the city throughout the year, be it for business or leisure. Besides, Bengaluru’s metro network has been welcomed by the residents of the city as a move that will surely cut down on the travel time within the city, which is usually stretched due to the presence of traffic jams in most parts.
Although Bengaluru metro’s airport line has got a go-ahead by the state cabinet, it awaits approvals from Union government, Civil Aviation Ministry, and the Airports Authority of India. According to the Benagluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited officials, the construction of this metro line will commence in 2018 and will end at the same time the 22 km Gottigere-Nagawara stretch is completed.
