Eager to promote tourism, Sri Lanka builds a new port city and waves visa fee

Sri Lanka is actively pursuing its goal to build a new port city to encourage tourism these days. Four months since the attack faced by Sri Lanka on Easter, which resulted in the death of more than 260 people, the country is finally gaining strong ground and looking forward to a brighter future.
As per the reports, Sri Lanka wants to promote tourist arrivals within its territory; hence, the government is taking many measures to achieve this goal. One such effort being made by the Sri Lankan government is constructing a port city in Colombo. The government has purchased 269 acres of land from the Indian Ocean for the construction work. An official from Sri Lankan tourism stated that the new city will have a financial district, resorts, water parks, hotels and hospitals as well as theme parks similar to Jumeirah in Dubai and Singapore. An engineering company from China has been assigned the job of accomplishing this project.


So much so that the Sri Lankan government has waived off the compulsory visa fee for travellers on a visit to the country for the next six months. In fact, India is one of the countries among the 48 countries that have been exempted from visa fee of $35 (equivalent to INR 2500) starting from August 2019. In addition, the Sri Lankan government has also reduced airfares to encourage tourism.

Reportedly, the Sri Lanka government has also beefed up security everywhere within its boundary to make sure tourists feel safe and at ease during their stay.
