Dhammikarama Burmese Buddhist Temple

Relive the grand Myanmarese heritage at this 19 century Dhammikarama Temple, the only Burmese Buddhist Temple in Malaysia. It invites travellers from far afar and dazzles them with its glorious architecture. Ornate exteriors, intricately designed interiors and the use of gold all come together to weave a certain magic. Next to the main shrine, you cannot but notice the unique statue of Pancha Rupa or the Guardian Protector—a form derived from the combination of an elephant, a fish, a bird, a lion and a deer.
Dhammikarama Temple is preserved as a major tourist attraction and is home to an award-winning gardening landscape in its premises. The historical temple features as a key landmark in Penang. If the Thai temple, Wat Chayamangkalaram, opposite this one, hosts the third longest reclining Buddha statue, this Burmese temple hosts an equally impressive and larger-than-life standing statue of Lord Buddha. Besides the shrine itself, the campus also has living quarters for its monks and a library.

Tips: Dhammikarama Burmese Temple is situated opposite Wat Chayamangkalaram on Lorong Burmah or Burma Lane. So, it is best to plan these two places of worship together.
