An ancient Hindu temple, this one has been in existence before the French colonised Pondicherry. It is dedicated to the Hindu deity Ganesha and is highly revered. A 7.5 kg chariot plated in gold is a major highlight of this place, luring people from all around the region to its annual exhibition on the day of Dussehra. Intricate engravings and painting by some of the best artists adorn the walls of this temple. A number of efforts were made to destroy the temple during French regime, though it saw little harm. Put it in your itinerary for a rendezvous with culture, history and religion of the region.
