This brings us to its name. Sri Chilkur Balaji Temple, believed to have been built over 500 years ago, also goes by the name Visa Balaji Temple. Yes, you read that right. And it is called so because there’s a prevalent belief among devotees that seeking the blessings of Lord Balaji here can facilitate their visa approval process for international travel. This belief has attracted pilgrims from far and wide, adding to the temple's popularity and significance.
Coming back to our visa story, it is believed that if a devotee performs the 11 pradakshinas (circumambulations) around the sanctum sanctorum with unwavering faith and devotion, fervently praying for their wishes to be fulfilled, then the temple deity (Balaji) blesses the individual and fulfills their heart’s desires. If or when the wish gets fulfilled, one has to do 108 pradakshinas as a gesture of gratitude.
But that’s not all that’s unique about this temple. What sets this temple apart from any other temple in India is the fact that it has a very unique tradition and approach towards worship.

Additionally, the temple does not have a hundi (donation box) or any means for devotees to make monetary contributions. Instead, the focus is solely on spiritual devotion and prayer. Visitors are encouraged to offer prayers, perform rituals such as circumambulation (pradakshina), and seek the blessings of the deity without any expectation of financial exchange.
These unusual practices and beliefs contribute to the distinctiveness of Sri Chilkur Balaji Temple, making it a fascinating and spiritually enriching destination for pilgrims and visitors alike.
