The dictum ‘the journey is greater than the destination’ is nowhere truer than this. While Split is a great little town in its own right, it’s the drive from Dubrovnik to Split that is well and truly spectacular. This coastal drive has featured in many car advertisements, TV shows and films. The gorgeous stretch of road meanders through bright blue waters and offers panoramic views of orange rooftops of Dubrovnik. You will want to pull up for photographs every few minutes, so make sure you factor those stops into the driving time. Once you reach Split, you will be surprised at the sheer beauty of the city. There is magic in the air—no wonder it is often referred to as the prettiest city in Europe. Visit Diocletian’s Palace and spend the afternoon exploring the UNESCO Heritage Site. It’s easy to spend a few hours exploring the ruins of this Roman Palace. Once you’ve explored it to your heart’s content, step out onto Riva—the main promenade of the city. If you enjoy outdoorsy activities, especially hiking, then head to Marjan. The hill is a great place for jogs, long walks and treks.
