Soon travel between Navi Mumbai and Gateway of India in speed boats

You might soon be able to travel between Navi Mumbai and Gateway of India via speed boats. The Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) is working on such a plan, regarding which the board has also written to the Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) seeking space to anchor the boats at the anchorage situated at the iconic site.
Referring to this development, a senior official stated that they have written to the MbPT for two berthing spaces at the Gateway of India, and that the speed boat service will depend on their response. He further added that private operators have also started showing interest in launching services on the said route.
The official further added that the services will start as soon as all the necessary consents from the MbPT that controls the anchorage at the eastern waterfront and Apollo Bunder are received. The official mentioned that permissions from the MbPT will pique interests of more operators to join, adding how such a boat service would help to cut down the time taken to commute between Navi Mumbai and South Mumbai to 30-40 minutes.
Reportedly, the MMB is also reviving the long-pending proposal, i.e., to construct a jetty at the Radio Club. The MMB official informed that they were trying to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the MbPT for the jetty.
Despite this region being a coastal state with two major ports, i.e., the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT), it has not yet exploited the potential of its 720km coastline to the fullest in terms of developing facilities like captive jetties and marinas.
