Jammu and Kashmir: Efforts are on to highlight the region on religious tourism map

As per the Jammu and Kashmir administration, efforts are being made to highlight Jammu and Kashmir on the international tourist pilgrimage map. As this region is replete with several historical religious sites, the administration is of the view that people should be aware of those, and visit this region to know more about them.
Advisor to Lt. Governor KK Sharma announced this during his visit to the Buddhist site at Ambaran in the Akhnoor area in Jammu district. Referring to this site, he stated it is important to mention that the site pre-dates to the Kushana period and is of pivotal importance, apart from the terracotta of figurines excavated from the site and artefacts that can be found in different museums all over the world. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) undertook the conservation work of this site since 2004 and is still in process.

The advisor said that since the site is of immense importance, it needs to be developed, so that researchers, tourists, and archaeologists from all around the world can come and benefit from the wide range of artefacts excavated.
Similarly, there are various other historic and pre-historic sites that need to be preserved and spread awareness about their importance to people within the state and beyond the borders.
Later, he also directed the officers to make sure proper road connectivity to the historical sites are looked upon, besides other conservation measures in and around site. He also directed the tourism department to run suitable campaigns to spread awareness about the historical sites in this region.
