Dubai could soon be a new paradise for cycling lovers, as the city is planning to go bike-friendly. Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has now announced that the city is going to go this way, and put in laws around it. While the city may be known for its extraordinarily fancy cars, we might be able to see a whole new side to it soon.
Over the next five years, construction will be on to develop 350 solar-powered stations all across Dubai that will hold 3500 bicycles on the streets.
The city already has a cycling track spanning 425 km, and this is to be expanded to about 650 km in the next three years. In the meantime, Dubai has postponed the Dubai Expo 2020 due to Coronavirus, and it is now scheduled for October 2021.
