Singapore in December: Top 5 must-see spots during the cooler months
Any time is a good time to visit Singapore, yet winter has its different appeal. Although you don’t visit this destination in December for the traditional ‘winter’ that is witnessed in other parts of the world, the cooler months from November to January are often considered the best time to visit, and the appeal that you can’t ignore. During the winter time, the humidity is on the lower side, with occasional rainfall, allowing visitors to explore the city’s vibrant attractions without the scorching heat.
So, here are some places you shouldn’t miss when visiting Singapore during these ‘cooler’ winter months.
Gardens by the Bay
It’s definitely one of the most iconic attractions in Singapore, and is a must-see during any season. The Supertree Grove looks especially magical during the evening, with the trees illuminated against the night sky. Don’t miss the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, which provide a refreshing respite from the tropical heat, even during the cooler months. These indoor gardens are a breathtaking sight, which has a collection of flora from all around the world, and housed in temperature-controlled environments.
Marina Bay Sands
The milder winter months are the perfect time of year to visit the SkyPark, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of Singapore's skyline. Looking out over the famous Marina Bay Sands pool and the busy city below, the breeze from the observation deck is particularly cool. With little haze, it's an excellent location for photography, capturing Singapore's dynamic cityscape.
Sentosa Island
Sentosa is known for its beaches, luxury resorts, and attractions like Universal Studios Singapore. During the cooler months, the weather is perfect for enjoying its outdoor activities without the intense humidity. The cable car ride from Mount Faber to Sentosa is a highlight, offering spectacular views of the island and the Singapore Strait. Visitors can also explore the quieter beaches of Sentosa for a relaxing day by the sea.
Chinatown
Chinatown is a cultural gem, where you can explore traditional markets, temples, and eat some of Singapore’s best street food. In winter, the streets are less humid, making it a comfortable place to walk around and explore the vibrant local heritage. Be sure to visit the Chinatown Heritage Centre, and don’t miss out on the colorful Chinatown Street Market.
Singapore Zoo & Night Safari
Even while the Singapore Zoo is a popular destination all year round, the Night Safari is especially fun on the cooler evenings. The animals are more active in the cooler months if you choose to go on a night safari. You can visit it once to see what makes it unique; it's said to be the world's first evening zoo. The Safari's tram ride provides a chance to see nocturnal creatures in their native environments.
Singapore Botanic Gardens
This UNESCO World Heritage site is another tranquil escape, where you can enjoy a walk among lush greenery, lakes, and swaying trees. The cooler weather makes walking through the Botanic Gardens more pleasant, and the Swan Lake area is perfect for a peaceful afternoon.
