It is one of the most iconic sites to see while in Fiji and swimming in the Sawa-i-Lau Caves is an absolute must! Hiring a guide to explore the caves is the best way to do so and to reach the caves we suggest booking a seaplane day trip. Not only do you get to reach the caves quickly but you also get incredible views over the islands. The first cave is full of fresh seawater, which is so clear that taking underwater photos is a breeze. Warm water to play in makes it hard to leave the brightly lit cave but a second cave awaits those brave souls. Getting to the second cave requires swimmers to dive through a pitch-black space, only when the tide allows for it and that’s why you hire a guide. Once inside the second cave it is dimly lit and full of incredible limestone formations. It’s hard to choose which cave is our favorite and we suggest making sure to experience both.
