Located 25 km away from the capital Vientiane, The Buddha Park is a public park lined with numerous statues of Buddha and Hindu deities. It was built in 1958 by Luang Pu Bounleua Suliat, a monk who tried to integrate Hinduism with Buddhism. The park can be visited while entering into Laos from Thailand by road. It contains more than 200 statues of humans, gods, animals and demons. Some religious statues are beautifully depicted whereas the imaginative demon statues are real bizarre. Unlike the other ancient statues which are carved out of stones, the statues at Buddha Park are made of bricks and concrete. The highlight of the park is a 40 m long reclining Buddha. Besides the giant Buddha there are statues of three headed elephant and an artistic deity with twelve faces & five arms which are worth checking out. The giant pumpkin inside the park is designed like a demon’s mouth. Entering into the demon’s mouth will ascend you from hell to the heaven using the stairs. Top of the pumpkin is the best spot to get the bird’s eye view of this poorly created surreal extravaganza.Refrain from posting comments that are obscene, defamatory or inflammatory, and do not indulge in personal attacks, name calling or inciting hatred against any community.
