Not as morbid as it sounds, this cemetery provides a fascinating insight into the history of Agra. It can’t really be claimed as being famous, but if it were at all considered to be known for anything, it would be for the tomb of John William Hessing which is a red sandstone replica of the Taj Mahal. John Hessing was a Dutch mercenary who was ultimately given the control of the Agra Fort and the city. After his death in 1803, his devastated wife built his tomb as a replica of the Taj Mahal, she was inspired as much by the architecture as the story of lost love.
