India has several captivating islands, each with its unique charm and significance. Some of these islands are out in the sea, and some formed by the rivers. Wherever they may be, they offer interesting experiences, a lot different from what we get in the mainland.

What’s special about Indian islands is that, whether it's the vibrant marine life of the Andamans and Lakshadweep, or the traditional charm of river islands like Majuli and Munroe Islands, these islands provide travellers unique travel and cultural experiences. Majuli, the largest river island in the world, is Assam’s pride and joy. Surrounded by the waters of Brahmaputra River, Majuli Island is known for its vibrant culture and unique Neo-Vaishnavite monasteries.

This river island is located in the Cauvery River, close to the Shivanasamudra waterfalls. For those who are looking for a holiday in the midst of nature, these islands are great as they offer breathtaking views of the waterfalls and lush forests.

This artificial island in Kochi is also the largest one of its kind in India. Willingdon Island can be reached from the mainland Kochi via ferries.

A short ferry-ride away from the Mumbai Harbour is the enigmatic Elephanta Island, home to the famous Elephanta Caves. These caves are also one of the most visited UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India.
